MACBETH ACT ONE:
Scene one Notes:

• three witches meet in a heath during a storm (pictures on page eight)
• The three witches are planning on meeting up with Macbeth after the battle is over and
there is one winner and one looser (when the battle is lost and won)
• they talk about where they will meet again - heath (upon the heath)
• the three witches initiate the reverse from the good to the bad (fair is foul and foul is fair)
• they have a devilish influence on that
• all Values are turned around in the first scene of the first act


Scene one points of interest:

• Why do the witches want to meet up with Macbeth ?
• What battle are the witches talking about ?
• What are the witches like / what role do they play ?



Scene two:


• King Duncan meets a wounded sergeant in a field camp together with his two sons
Malcom and Donalbain (What bloody man is that ? - p. 9)
• Duncan want´s an update about the Battle (newest state - p.9)
• the wounded sergeant just returned from a battle between scottish armed forces and
rebellious allies of the traitor Macdonwald (fought gainst my captivity - p.9)
• unknown outcome of the battle (doubtful it stood - p.9)
• the leader of the battle was Macbeth (brave Macbeth - p.9)
• the sergeant reports that the rebellious forces were the lucky ones at first, but then,
Duncans Cousin, Macbeth killed Macdonwald and won the battle against the rebellious
allies (unseame´d him from the nave to the chaps - p.9)
• but shortly after that the treacherous Than for Cawdor, who is allied to the King of
Norway opened another battle, because he thought that Duncans force will be weak after
the first battle(comfort seem´d to come discomfort swells )
• Macbeth and Banquo were not quite impressed by that
• they seemed stronger than before (Sparrows eagles ; hare the lion - p.10)
• Duncan calls Macbeth a great cousin, worthy nobleman & a gentleman (O valliant cousin
.. p.10)
• the bloody sergeant was diverted away - his wounds need a treatment (but I am faint
p.10)
• Ross and Angus appear
• They report that Duncans force won the battle because of the fighting spirit of Macbeth -
Duncan is proud - Worthy nobleman
• Thane of Cawdor abused Duncans trust by assisting Norway in the battle(most disloyal
traitor - p.11)
• Norway want´s a truce (craves composition)
• Norway is forbidden to burry their people until they paid a 10k dollar fee( 10k to our
general use)

, • Duncan reports that the treacherous Than for Cawdor should be executed (go pronounce
his present death)
• Macbeth should get his title (former title, greet Macbeth)



Scene two points of interest:

• the fighting spirit of Macbeth
• Thane of Cawdor´s execution and the role it plays for Macbeths career
• Macbeth is the new Thane of Cawdor


Scene three Notes:


• the three witches meet again in thunder and lightning
• they talk about the cruel activities they did in the meantime of their last meet up
• 2nd witch killed pigs
• 3rd witch wanted to steal some Lady´s peanuts but she wouldn´t give them to the witch. That is
why the witch followed her husband and sneaked on his boat (transformed into a rat)
• the witches control the weather - wind
• this way the witches can control where the man´s boat is located
• he is caught on the water without something to eat or to drink
• the witches won´t let him sleep
• he will die because his body is so exhausted
• they want to destroy his boat by causing a storm
• the first witch has a thumb of a dead sailor with her
• they prepare for meeting Macbeth
• they make a wierd and creepy spell
• they call eachother the wierd sisters
• the three witches meet Macbeth in the heath (not on purpose I think)
• Macbeth and Banquo were riding their horses through the heath and talk about their day & are
quite shocked when the wierd looking creatures appeared
• The three witches greet them
• the first witch calls Macbeth by his actual title (at the moment) - Thane of Glamis
• the second witchs greets him with „Thane of Cawdor“ - that will be his future title, he does not
know about it yet
• the third witch predicts Macbeth that he will be the king soon (Macbeth is very amazed by that -
first thoughts of murdering the king)
• Macbeth seems scared
• The witches also have a prediction for Banquo
• Banquo himself will never be the king, but his descendants will be (Nachkommen) and he will be
greater and happier
• Banquo is very interested and he wants to have more information
• the witches disappear
• Macbeth gets the news that Duncan gave him the title „Thane of Cawdor“ from Ross
• Macbeth is shocked that the second witch was right
• Banquo is shocked as well
• Angus tells Macbeth that the Thane of Cawdor should be executed
• he starts wondering about, rather if the third witches prediction will be come true as well or if it
will not
• he thinks about a plan how to get rid of King Duncan
• Banquo is sceptical with the witches prophecies
• Banquo recognizes the devilish influence the witches have on Macbeth
