, Human rights have been violated numerous times throughout the world in an

attempt to create unity and perfection within nations. Both Nazi Germany and North

Korea are prime examples of gaining power through the use of indoctrination towards

the youth in order to normalize the extreme. Since humans are shaped by experience,

the innocence of youth makes them the target audience for achieving a uniform society.

In an interview with Louis L. Synder, the purpose of school systems in Nazi Germany

was described as a way to “fashion citizens conscious of the glory of country and filled

with fanatical devotion to the national cause"1. When only being exposed to a single

point of view, many children begin to display a collective hatred or devotion towards

certain people or communities. In both Nazi Germany and present-day North Korea,

children are illusioned to believe that the fate of their nation is in their hands, whereas in

reality, their individual views and ideals have been shaped and altered since the day

they were born. So, what is the correlation between the youth indoctrination techniques

used in Nazi Germany to those used in present-day North Korea? Both countries'

school curriculums have been altered in order to benefit the ideology the leaders believe

in; however, the methods applied in order to accomplish this may vary. I will explore this

correlation by analyzing the indoctrination methods taught to the youth with the goal to

establish hate towards specific communities, along with creating a strong sense of

nationalism and devotion to the country.
