When browsing through materials on the Learning Resource Center or LRC, two resources inparticular caught my eye. One of them was Math resources and the second, Academic Writing.
In terms of Math resources, I found Khan academy to be very resourceful with all sorts of
examples, YouTube videos and learning materials both for students and instructors alike. However,
the best part about their tutoring service is how the website is organized to offer options much like
the service plans and products offered by a telecommunication company or a software-based
company like Intuit. In terms of math applications, both types of businesses require a great deal of
math when it comes to calculation for service plan prorations, account charges, data usage, tax
calculations etc. Secondly, the academic section caught my eye on the learning resource center. With
plagiarism on the rise, it has never been more important to follow the APA format and provide
references for all the work. Furthermore, the academic writing section provides learning materials
for pre-writing strategies, grammar as well as essay writing strategies for different types of
audiences. With “simple typos costing millions of dollars” (1), grammar which covers commas,
apostrophes etc. add value not just for the students but for employers and business owners alike.
Not to mention, argumentative essays build the foundation required for the business world as well
as the world of law and order.
Overall, Math resources and academic writing add to the overall value of the Learning resource
Center.
