14 U.S.C 89a. - ANSWER The Coast Guard has the authority to conduct
inquiries, examinations, inspections, searches, seizures, and arrests on high seas
and waters within US jurisdiction to prevent, discover, and repress infractions
of US laws.
The three categories of self-defence - ANSWER Personal: the act of protecting
oneself or others from impending danger
Unit: the act of defending a specific unit of US armed soldiers or law
enforcement assets from immediate harm.
National: Defense of the United States, U.S. Forces, and U.S. citizens and their

Level 1 - ANSWER Officer Presence: Appearance, manner, vocal and
nonverbal signals that establish an environment of compliance.
Level 2 - ANSWER Verbal orders: Verbal orders in the form of task directions
with repercussions for the subject.
Level 3 - ANSWER Control Techniques: Techniques or acts that are unlikely to
cause connective tissue injury, skin lacerations, or broken bones. They include
the appropriate use of restraining devices, pain compliance, and strength tactics.
Level 4 - ANSWER Aggressive ANSWER Techniques: Techniques or
activities that are likely to cause connective tissue damage, skin lacerations, or
broken bones, or to irritate the skin, eyes, or mucous membrane. They include
the appropriate use of kicks, stuns, punches, takedowns, and chemical irritants.
Level 5 - ANSWER Intermediate Weapons: Techniques or acts that are likely to
cause connective tissue damage, skin lacerations, or shattered bones. These
approaches involve the use of the 12 gauge rubber-fin stabilizer and baton.
, Level 6 - ANSWER Deadly Force: Any force that is likely to inflict death or
serious harm, including the use of regular military weapons.
Subjects are classified into four types: passive, resistive, active, and aggressive.
Passive Compliant - ANSWER A subject who follows the officer's request or
verbal directives but does not physically fight the officer's attempts to seize
control.
Passive Resistor - ANSWER A subject who does not accept the officer's request
or verbal commands, but provides no physical opposition to the officer's
attempts to acquire control.
Active Resistor - ANSWER A subject who does not heed the officer's requests
or verbal commands and provides physical resistance that prevents or may
impede the officer from taking control, but does not hurt the officer.
Active Aggressor - ANSWER A person who attempts to harm or attack the
officer.
6 Non-Deadly Force Circumstances - ANSWER Any force other than deadly
force may be used in the following circumstances:
-For individual and group self-defense.
-To enforce compliance with an order that the CG has the right to issue
-To prevent a federal crime or, when approved, a significant state or foreign
criminal for which the CG has the authority to act on behalf of the state or
foreign government.
-To make a legitimate arrest or prevent escape when there is probable cause that
the suspect committed a federal offense.
-To prevent theft, malicious damage, or destruction of property that the CG has
authority to guard.

What is included in the proper LE uniform when operating as a BTM?
