Performance Profiling
Performance Profiling is a list of desired attributes and characteristics about the player. It's
also a way of giving an athlete information about their performance. It analyzes physical,
technicai, tactical, physiological, and psychological factors.
There’s many benefits of Performance Profiling such as:
● It helps identify an appropriate training programme
● It helps maximise the participant’s motivation to the training program
● It can help monitor any changes that occur over a given time
● Performance Profiling identifies current fitness levels
● It identifies strengths and areas for improvements
● It helps an athlete and coach set goals
Each Performance Profile will have 4 key stages:
● Identify and define key qualities for performance
● Discuss the clients profiles
● Agree on goals and how they will be achieved
● Repeat the profiling to monitor athletes progress
Technical characteristics are used in an athletic activity that require the performer to
complete a skill. Good use of technique will result in a higher succession rate. For example,
in football the striker will have to have good technique when shooting to have a higher
chance of scoring for the team. There’s many other technical factors such as long passing,
short passing, dribbling, heading standing tackle, sliding tackle and first touch. They come
under technical factors because they require the player’s good use of technique in order to
be successful. ANalysing the technical abilities of the footballer will give the coach an insight
of what the player’s strengths and weaknesses are.

requires a formation, but this won’t be included in a Performance Profile of a player as a
formation is for the whole team and not an individual. Tactical ability is based on how you
can adapt to different scenarios in a match and how you can overcome challenges put in
front of you. Examples of this are, marking, recovery runs, tempo of play and rotation. N
Physical factors are also included in the Performance Profile as they are factors that focus
on just the body. In football, it can be how quick a player is or depending on their position
how far they can sustain a high pace for. Physical factors could be stamina, agility, juping,
acceleration and strength. Usually to help players' physical attributes they will make a gym
programme specifically for them.
Physiology is the study of how exercise changes the function and structure of the body. A
sports physiologist is here o unders and the physiological demands of performance, which
inform what characteristics a footballer should have to be successful. In football warm up
