Reuma is een verzamelnaam voor meer dan 100 verschillende aandoeningen aan de
gewrichten, spieren en pezen. Het afweersysteem is ontregeld wat er voor zorgt dat er
chronische ontstekingen ontstaan. (UMC Utrecht, 2021)
Epidemiologie
In Nederland leven ongeveer 260.000 mensen met reuma, per jaar komen hier rond de
12.000 mensen bij. Op alle leeftijden komt reuma vaker voor bij vrouwen dan bij mannen,
het aantal mensen met reuma neemt met de leeftijd toe. 61% van de mensen met reuma is
jonger dan 65 jaar. Ieder jaar krijgt 1 op de 66 mensen de diagnose reumatische
