Healthcare is the fastest-growing segment of the United States workforce. The healthcare

extraordinary changes in how healthcare is being delivered, the people providing care, and the

face critical factors on all sides and, this paper will examine the external influences on the
workforce in a nursing home setting. This paper will specifically discuss mitigation of these
influences and how to create and build a substantial workforce for nursing homes.
A Study of Nursing Home Facilities during Public Health Emergency
To understand the nursing home workplace's complexity and how to work through this,
one must first understand what a nursing home is. According to "Residential Facilities, Assisted
Living, And Nursing Homes" (2017), "Nursing homes, also called skilled nursing facilities,
provide a wide range of health and personal care services. Their services focus on medical care
more than most assisted living facilities. These services typically include nursing care, 24-hour
supervision, three meals a day, and assistance with everyday activities. Rehabilitation services,
such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, are also available." (What Are Nursing
Homes?). Given the intense amount of interaction one has with a nursing home patient (resident),
it is no wonder that hiring in this workplace is difficult at the best of times.
