There was a time in my life when the thought of completing a simple paper during my undergrad
years, meant hours of agony and frustration. As the product of 2 high achieving scholars, whom had
successful careers practicing law, the youngest of 5 in my family, including a brother and a sister who
both achieved doctorate degrees, I was intimidated by the thought of achieving the same caliber of
educational success. After overcoming those mental hurdles, I have an idea that will provide positive
change for the world. This thought derived from me simply needing is to create an effective
management style, that would maximize the innovation potential of having 4 generations of IT workers
within an organization. Over the last few years of my career and currently, several interviews have been
conducted in attempt to gain insight and understanding. It was also known that past experiences would
be provide valuable data, that can be utilized for quantitative research. Although the sample was small, I
am confident that it is a good representation of the population.
As time moved further along on this doctoral path, it was realized that this research is seeking the
how and why of this onset. Technology will continue to polarize society with its advancement. Rising
popularity within technology, led researchers to explore how technology is integrated into cultural
environments and how it could generate the creation of new ones (Edmunds and Turner 2005). The
conceptual basis for this study is advancement in understanding of generational differences in the
workforce. Generational differences and commonalities in work needs and preferences, in conjunction
with practitioner indicators for management and organizational leadership (Huerin-Marion, Manion,
Parsons). These concepts inform the study of generational differences within the Information technology
