Completion of a statement of issues
Negotiation on behalf of either the Petitioner or the Respondent
Discussion on desirability of making an offer of settlement in light of the parties’
respective circumstances

Preparation for Session:
Review all documents in the case of Cooper. You should ensure that you bring all
documents that relate to the Cooper case to the session (see WS 5).
Review chapters 4 and 9 CLP Family Law and Practice.
Make detailed notes on the gaps and ambiguities in the Petitioner and the Respondent’s
respective cases
In the session you will be asked to undertake a negotiation exercise, acting either for the
Petitioner or the Respondent. You should attend with sufficient knowledge of the Cooper
case to act for either party.
Post-Session:
Review all the documentation from the session and ensure you understand the range of
possible settlements in this scenario and the principles on which a party may make an
offer of settlement.
