Health and Safety Assignment 2

Task 2

Task 2 - P5 M3 | Introduction - I will be explaining the techniques used to pinpoint hazards that are
in a performing workshop environment.

To be able to recognize the hazards that are currently active in a workplace, you must have the
ability to comprehend all the hazards in the workplace, one way of doing so can be to follow a health
and safety work act procedure so then you can easily not only acknowledge their guidelines but also
be able to trail their guidelines to notice the hazards at present in the workplace. When every single
hazard has been noticed/underlined which of are in the workplace, the next thing to do would be to
abide by the procedures that the regulation also offers you with, to relieve the pressure and concern
of the harm that the hazards can and may cause - injury or even death. Hazards which have been
catalogued in the risk assessment were uncovered by examining all kinds of machinery in the
workshop as well as their working status (operational or broken down) the next step would be to
investigate each separate part of equipment located in the workplace to make sure that it is
ab]available to be operated, the same thing can be done for tools an example is files. Following the
previous steps, the subsequent thing to do will be to examine the workplace in a simple general
manner this comprises places such as: the protection system which covers all set ups examples
being: Emergency stops, any variation of alarms, fire doors and finally safety tools including
equipment. Another method can be considered as being have delineated every hazard at present in
the work-place you want to then make sure you have them remembered or written somewhere and
then commence forth and generate a risk assessment sheet so then you can fill one in, resulting in
this you will have made it a lot simpler for you when deciding to investigate every one of the hazards
located in the workplace, this also would save plenty of time. A risk assessment is something you can
operate to evaluate hazards that need to be examined on it you will have the option to tick if it is
either secure or not which then will result in that tool/equipment to not be operated on. The risk
assessment requires to be completed each point in time when verifying the workshop and also
dated when doing so then we know exactly when this piece of equipment was safe or not safe, this
risk assessment also is essential to be done formerly before making use of any of the machinery in
the workshop because if not done so this can have huge consequences for the employees working in
the workshop. Once again, a risk assessment is a extremly effective and useful approach to realising
if the workshop is safe and sound to operate in because if this is not the case, then serious
approaches need to be made to the tools and equipment that can be operated in the workplace. The
risk assessment should involve evidence that examination has been gone through things such as
assessing each piece of machinery - including every one of its characteristics and modes, observing
noises as well as the structure of every specific machine as this can tell us if something potentially
wrong is going to happen to the machine. However, if a risk assessment is not to be taken the least
attention for safety would be to just simply to just plan down the hazards in the workplace, as this
can be done easily by just walking down and around the workshop having a quick look around
everything - this is not recommended. In Conclusion, it would be advisable to even just have
examinations around various places of the workshop just to guarantee minimum safety for all beings
that enter the workshop through time and at any time. Despite this it would be a great safety
measure and is mostly required to have completed a full risk assessment as this includes various
ways of examining the workshop for hazards and foresees any possibility of any hazards that can
transpire the technique/method of the risk assessment by doing this further action is clearer and can
be executed can also lead to employees feeling more safe around the workshop which then
inevitably lead to more work being done as well.

, Task 2 - P7 M3

One of the hazards that became a risk was A Slip that was put in place by water/oil this can end up
in being extremly hazardous, so appropriate control measures will need to be put in place for people
to avoid that certain area. A couple of methods that I have wrote about in the risk assessment that
can result in good ways to control this hazard are placing a hazard sign next to the spills for visibility
as it will be bright and catch anyone’s attention so then no one would step near the area, this is
suitable because this will not really disrupt anyone and also will be the best option to go with. An
additional decent control that can occur is just by simply getting rid of the hazard completely this can
be executed correctly by using a spill kit then that area will be fully accessible leading to it becoming
suitable - people who are trained should only be able to use it. Tools and Equipment can appear as
act as a endangering hazard as well, however this can easily be reduced possibly even prevented by
using the following control measures: placing the tools/equipment in their correct designated places
where people borrowed them from in the first place, this would be suitable as they would be out of
harm’s way, however you could on the other hand give the tools/equipment to someone who needs
to use them then they would have the responsibility to take care of them resulting in this to be
suitable. These would be the best possible actions to take to cause the least damage. Faulty
Machinery despite being in operation or not can be a death causing hazard which needs very
precautionary control measures that must be seriously considered especially for the employees that
would be operating these machines daily. One huge control that could be out in place is to make
sure that employees do not wear loose clothing if they were not doing so before this hazard was out
in place which they should have been, as long clothing has a huge chance to get pulled in by the
machines, this is suitable as this would also help when doing casual activities around the workshop.
Linking back to the slips hazard a sign or poster illustrating that there is a problem with the
machinery - that it is not operational would cause people to not go near the area at all in case of
something bad occurring this will end up being suitable as the sign/poster would be bright and
attention seeking like previously mentioned for the slips hazard. Just like for the slips hazard getting
rid of the slips was the best control measure to do, for this hazard the best option would be for the
contractor, employer to get new parts/ components to repair the machinery which would get rid of
this hazard completely which will then allow people to access that area of the workshop and access
the machine to continue their work. Whilst this control measure is being implemented one of the
previously mentioned control measures can be put in place for the time being which would be very
suitable. One more important control measure which could be contemplated if there are a lot of
employees in the workshop is to just completely block off the entire area around the occurring
hazard to fully prevent anyone at all going near the hazard - this ends ups becoming very suitable
compared to the other. Missing, damaged, or misused machinery guards can also be a extreme
hazard as it cannot be really visibly seen as it may be damaged from the back of the guards. For this
type of hazard the best control measure would be to put a sign or poster on the machine so people
can easily be warned that they should not be operating the machine because there is no protection
in case if something were to happen - this would be suitable as everyone would easily be able to stay
away, like the previous hazard you could simply just block off the area so no one can enter the area
at all - this results in being suitable as everyone is more safe by using this process. Purchasing guards
will completely get rid of this hazard however for it to work it might take a bit of time so we could do
what we mentioned in the previous method use a temporary control measure whilst we are waiting
for the guards to be purchases and place onto the machine for maximum protection. In conclusion
despite hazards having different outcomes suitable control measures need to be put in place so then
there won’t be any odd outcome of the hazard which may harm workers and maybe even items
around the workshop, because if this happens this might lead to more time being squandered.
