Belangrijk om te weten over welke groep kinderen we het hebben en ook hoe groot die groep
kinderen is:
Prevalentie: NPN in samenwerking met TNO → onderzoeken prevalentie van KM. Op verschillende
manieren: veilig thuis gegevens, zelfrapportage en andere bronnen. Resultaat: 127000 kinderen p/j
- 127.000 children every year in the netherlands (Van Berkel et al., 2020) → groot getal
- 4-16% Physical abuse (Gilbert et al., 2009)
- 10% Neglect/emotional abuse
- 5-10% Sexual abuse
→ dit zijn schattingen, exacte cijfers zijn lastig te achterhalen. Bijv. bij zelfrapportages zijn sommigen
niet eerlijk vanuit schaamte of sommige zijn zich niet bewust dat dat wat ze hebben meegemaakt
daadwerkelijk KM is. Deze cijfers noemen we daarom het tipje van de ijsberg. Hetzelfde geldt voor
Veilig Thuis gegegevens: dat zijn gezinnen die bekend zijn bij Veilig thuis. Er zijn altijd gezinnen waar
KM plaatsvindt, maar niet zijn gemeld bij Veilig Thuis.
NB. Child maltreatment = child abuse and neglect → beide termen duiden hetzelfde aan.
