Working on the future…A new future for the package delivery. Almost everyone knows the well-known parcel
delivery companies such as DPD, ups and post NL. Very often you get your package delivered
with a van, but in recent years there has been a breakthrough when it comes to drone
delivery. The drones are capable to deliver parcels up to 30 kilograms and within 30 minutes
at the customer. The invention of drone delivery offers new opportunities and perhaps even
solutions, therefore presents a great profit when it comes to package deliveries.
A great solution that delivery drones could provide is to offer the opportunity to reduce Co2
emissions. Road transport is already responsible for 15% of worldwide Co2 emissions.
Co2 emissions not only cause global warming, they also cause water levels to grow. Co2
emissions are generally harmful to the environment and should be reduced as soon as
possible. The scientists led by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, show that the
drones use less energy than delivery vans. When opposed to the recent system for parcel
distribution, the use of drones means less accumulation on the road and less pollution in the
air. In a nutshell, this is an excellent step toward environmental sustainability.
Aside from reducing pollution, another important benefits that delivery drones could have is
improved productivity in terms of time. The number of parcels has grown over the years and
delivering the package on time will only become more challenging. Most parcel services
often promise delivery within 24 hours or within 2 to 3 working days. But what if there was a
possibility to deliver packages within 30 minutes? For example, a successful test was taken
at DHL with a drone to deliver parcels to people who life in difficult to reach places. The DHL
manager told that the requested packages were already delivered within 8 minutes. Which is
4 times faster than by car. So, this is certainly a success in terms of on-time delivery.
In conclusion delivery drones open a whole new world of possibilities. Not only can parcels
be delivered much faster. It also causes less damage to the environment. It is a small step for
technology but a big step for the environment.
