,The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen R. Covey

A quick introduction:

Covey believes the way we see the world is entirely based on our own
perceptions. In order to change a given situation, we must change
ourselves, and in order to change ourselves, we must be able to change
our perceptions.

- Habits 1,2 and 3 are focused on self-mastery and moving from
dependence to independence
- Habit 4, 5, 6 are focussed on developing teamwork, collaboration
and communication skills, and moving from independence to
interdependence
- Habit 7 is focussed on continuous growth and improvement, and
embodies all the other habits

, Paradigms and Principles

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People embody many of the fundamental
principles of human effectiveness. These habits are basic, they are
primary.

Habit 1: being proactive

Response-ability = the ability to choose how you will respond to a given
stimulus or situation.

In order to be proactive, we must focus on the Circle of Influence that lies
within our Circle of Concern. (We most work on the things we can do
something about)

Circle of influence = this circle is filled with the be’s (I can be more
cooperative) proactive people show their effort in the circle of influence.
The nature of their energy is positive, enlarging and magnifying.

Circle of concern = this circle is filled with the have’s. (I’ll be happy when I
have the ability to be more cooperative) reactive people, show their
efforts in the circle of concern. They focus on the weakness of other
people, the problems in the environment and circumstances over which
they have no control.

Proactive is the opposite of reactive.
Reactive people think the world is happening to them and that there is
nothing they can do. They are passive. Circle of influence = negative
energy reduces the circle.
