A. Analyze a company’s code of ethics

The culture of Walmart has been described by the company as a culture that motivates their

purpose of helping people save money so that they can have a better quality of life. The culture’s

foundation is their pledge to operate with honesty and integrity. Walmart’s company beliefs are:

1. Respecting the individual

2. Serving their customers

3. Striving to have excellence

4. And to act with integrity

The vision of Walmart is to endorse ownership of the company’s ethical culture to all who take

part in their company worldwide.

Walmart is a global company with approximately 2.2 million employees. Walmart is

owned by the Walton family. The main Walmart hub where the headquarters are is located in

Bentonville, Arkansas. Walmart is the largest employer in the world in the private sector They

also are one of the largest companies in the world based on the amount of revenue they make

each year. They are even on the Fortune 500 global list. The code of ethics that Walmart has

created is very thorough. In the very first section of the document, it educates individuals how to

bring up concerns or report ethical violations. The responsibility of each party after the concern is

raised is also outlined.

, Walmart looks as though they are extremely socially responsible. The responsibility of

corporate is outline in several different sections of the policy and is all encompassing. Ethical

labor practices, harassment and discrimination, environmental responsibility, product and food

safety, community relations, and health and safety in the workplace are all included. Employees

are given clear instructions on who is covered by each statement of ethics and each of the

employee’s responsibilities. Colleagues are encouraged to report when they see ethical violations

being made. They are also given a step-by-step process on how to do so. There is also a policy to

help those who report violations against retaliation. Actions of an illegal nature are not tolerated

by Walmart. Illegal activities include corruption, money laundering, insider

trading, and restrictive trade practices. This global company covers all necessary aspects in their

policy. They pride themselves to be socially responsible.

Walmart’s code of ethics goes over rules that are mandated by law. Because they are a

worldwide company; the code of ethics is universal no matter what the location. However, each

department or unit is expected to create policies that better reflect where they are working.

Operations of the company are expected to abide by many different rules and regulations

throughout the world. Because of this, employees are expected to abide by the local laws, as well

as the custom and culture. If there is ever a local conflict, Walmart has a division that handles

global ethics that would help guide the employees how to navigate the situation and apply the

statement of ethics. If an employee calls into the ethics division, it will be confidential and

anonymous. This will encourage employees to ask question if need be without any worry. The

code of ethics is compliant with legal mandates.
