Wanneer een kruising plaats vindt die verschilt in twee kenmerken wordt dat een dihybride kruising
genoemd. Een kruising met de overerving van maar één gen wordt een monohybride kruising
genoemd.
Wanneer genen van iets liggen op twee verschillende chromosomenparen, erven ze
onafhankelijk van elkaar over.
Genen die op hetzelfde chromosoom liggen horen tot hetzelfde haplotype. Zij erven
gekoppeld over.
In heterozygote individuen kunnen door crossing-over tijdens de meiose, nieuwe haplotypen
ontstaan.
Veel menselijke eigenschappen komen polygeen; onder invloed van verschillende genen, tot stand.
Genetische modificatie = het inbrengen van stukje DNA van het ene organisme naar het andere.
Transgene organismen = genen van de ene soort in een andere over te zetten. De techniek hoe je dit
moet doen wordt genetisch modificatie genoemd. Artsen bouwen het juiste DNA in bij een virus, dat
virus dient als vector (=transportmiddel). Het werkzame allel moet er nu voor zorgen de defecte
cellen weer normaal te laten functioneren; dit heet gentherapie.
