Fast food has been growing in popularity across the globe. McDonald’s opens a new
5 new restaurants per year and four of those are outside of the US. The majority of
McDonald’s income if generated outside of the US like other fast-food companies such as
KFC. Fast food is looked at as an American staple and is taken advantage of by most while
traveling. Global integration of food has been responsible for cultural interchange, economic
links, diplomacy along with creating jobs. They offer large boosts to the economy and then
level off with increased growth over time. Restaurants are some of the first things allowed
into a country when their market is open to the world.
Some of the benefits to fast food markets increasing around the globe are improved
economy, better quality foods, and more regulation. With these fast-food markets moving
into other countries, they buy the majority of their supplies from those countries increasing
the economy in those areas. They drive up the demand allowing for companies to increase
their cost some and create a larger revenue stream than they initially had. The quality of food
used in these restaurants is higher than what is used within the US. With the increased
quality in other countries McDonald’s has been improving their quality within the US,
getting all of their beef from specific suppliers and holding them to a set of standards they
deem necessary for the beef to be acceptable for their food. McDonald’s wants their food
standardized so that you know what you are getting no matter which location you walk into.
There are also risks to fast food spreading across the globe. Most of this food is full
