Strengths:
- I showed confident behavior which allowed me to speak clearly and ask the
questions that needed to be asked without the applicant feeling intimidated,
threatened, or nervous.
- I was speaking loud and clearly which allowed the applicant to understand what I
was saying with ease. This also helped the communication as they were able to
respond effectively rather than asking the question to be repeated.
- I asked elaborative questions which allowed me to gain an insight as to what the
individual is like outside of work life. Asking things such as the applicants’ hobbies
and interests allows me to profile their behavior and see what they are like as a
person because a bubbly and welcoming nature is important in making sure that the
work can be done both effectively in a team and individually.
- I confidently opened and closed the interviews, and I was elaborative and explained
everything thoroughly. By confidently opening and closing the interview it allowed
me to make the applicant feel comfortable and welcomed. I stood up when the
applicant entered the interview room to portray welcoming body language and
shaking their hand to feel as a part of the team.
Weaknesses:
- Major use of filler words (umm, erm, er). This was an issue as it made me look quite
unprofessional. I could have replaced these words with connectives whilst I thought
about what to say so that it looked as though the conversation flowed.
- Opening and closing of the interview looked quite staged (at each other repeatedly,
looking over to cue what to say). This could have easily been avoided if there was
more pre interview discussion with the panel. Looking at each other looked quite
unprofessional and made us as interviewers look quite unorganized which is one of
the main qualities that the job was looking for.
- I did not show a very open posture to the interviewee which may have come across
as intimidating and could have potentially hindered the performance within the
interview.
Opportunities:
- Pre discussed questions: the questions were discussed within the panel before to
know which questions should be asked by who. This gave the panel equal
opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills and a coherent understanding of how
to reflect what the business is looking for.
- I had the opportunity to present myself in a friendly but professional manner. This
allowed the interviewee to feel comfortable whilst answering the questions. I made
sure the interviewee felt comfortable in answering the questions by stating at the
beginning of the interview that there are no trick questions, and it is expected for
them to answer to the best to their ability. I also ensured comfort to the interviewee
, by skipping questions if necessary, so they do not feel pressured to provide a
response immediately.
- I had the opportunity to improve my organizational skills and ensure that all the
documentation is at hand to refer to when deciding whether the applicant is
successful or not.
Threats:
- It may take a long time to achieve my goals and if I am looking to see instant results
it is not possible to see instant results.
- There was a lack of eye contact between the interviewer and the interviewee. This
led to a communication barrier as I had to look at the interviewee and make sure
they understood what I was saying.
Swot analysis as an interviewee:
Strengths:
- I spoke clearly and loudly which allowed me to present myself as a confident and
strong individual for the role. Confidence and clarity were particularly important
when completing the interview as it is the first time the interviewers can see me as
myself.
- I showed a positive and professional attitude. This was done from small things such
as how I dressed to the interview to speaking formally (not shortening words etc.). It
is essential I showed myself as both formal and informal so I can portray both ways
of behavior and be assessed accordingly.
- Another strength is that I had lots of prior knowledge about what the job requires.
Having this information showed my seriousness to the job and made me stand out as
a candidate.
Weaknesses:
- I used the same words repetitively when answering the questions which may have
made the interviewers see me as unprepared.
- I was quite fidgety when talking and kept moving my hands etc. I could have come
across as unfocussed and inattentive. This would look unprofessional and the
likelihood of me getting the job would have decreased.
- I did not speak about my past experiences a lot and how this would impact me if I
received the job. If I spoke about past experiences, it would really help the
interviewer gain an understanding of how I work in a practical sense.
Opportunities:
- I had the opportunity to make sure that I was well presented in front of the
interviewer. This means I could pre rehearse what the questions may be and come
up with a potential answer that is adequate to give them enough information about
me.
, - I had the opportunity to show my understanding on the company beforehand which
would show how well I know the company. This would show the interviewer of my
competency for the role and why I should be hired for the job.
Threats:
- One of my threats were that I did not use a range of vocabulary which led to me
looking as though my English skills are not competent. Next time I plan to use a
range of vocabulary to make me a stronger candidate for the role.
- Another threat was that the interviewers seemed quite intimidating as they were all
constantly looking at me and maintaining eye contact. This caused me to become
restless and fidgety although that was not my intention. This may have come across
as unprofessional to the interviewers.
