The Romantic Red Revisited: Red Enhances Men’s Attraction to Young, but Not

Menopausal Woman study is an interesting take on what could influence sexual appeal. This

claim can be categorized as a causal claim, the cause in this study is the color red. The color red

is causing the women to seem more sexually attractive. Within the claim it is theorized that

wearing the color red causes younger women to seem as they are more attractive however, this

does not apply to older women (Schwarz &Singer, 2013). Considering that this is a causal claim

it would be necessary to satisfy the three causation criteria, which include covariance or cause

and effect, the temporal precedence, as well as internal validity (Morling, 2018). The covariance

of cause and effect is when the results show something in common between the cause variable

and the effect variable. With the temporal precedence the cause variable must come before the

actual effect. In order for there to be internal validity there can only be one reason that the results

come about the way that they do (Morling, 2018). There cannot be any other variables that give a

different result otherwise the study could be invalid. In this study all of the areas of criteria for a

causal claim had been met. There was some information that should have been included in the

method description such as ethnicity of the women in the photos. That could have made a

difference. Towards the end of the study it also mentioned that they did not report the the

sexuality of the men who participated in the study, that too could have made a difference as far as

weather there was any other factor. However, the study did stay in a controlled environment and
