As we all know employee health and safety is vital when it comes to a successful workplace. Unfortunately,
employee health has been on the decline throughout the company. As a result, employee attendance has also
declined causing higher workloads on other employees and management and impacting the company’s overal
productivity .
A study done by the Journal of Lifestyle Medicine explains that prolonged sitting times of office workers ca
cause exhaustion, job dissatisfaction, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lower back pain, knee pain, and
other muscular-skeletal disorders (Daneshmandi, 2017). I believe if we look around the office, we can see al
these symptoms in our employees. Luke Skywalker was out last week with lower back pain
and now must see a specialist. Indiana Jones was just recently diagnosed with high blood pressure and put
on a strict diet. Several employees suffer from neck and knee pain daily.
These problems are a result of long hours of sitting in the workplace, but the effects can be reduced. Like
many companies across the country, sitting is a large part of our day in order to complete daily tasksand this
causes underlying health issues. To do our part in addressing this issue we can put into place a mandatory
stand and stretch protocol. Where employees would have to stand every 30 minutes for one minute and
stretch. With this increase in movement threw outthroughoutthe day, employee health would increase along
with employee attendance due to illness. ConsequentiallyConsequentlythis willimprovingimprovethe
employee's productivity and therefore the company's productivity.
