Gabriel Corvese brings the reader’s attention to the concept of slacktivism which refers to

the individual support of a cause but doing literally nothing in promoting the cause in the real

action, but engage in passive support of the cause which only shows awareness on the issue.

Similarly, Schlumpf notes that the use of online platforms to demonstrate the individual support

of a cause does nothing in changing the actual cause. In this article, Schlumpf illustrates how

easy it is for a person to write and post on various social network platforms to show how they do

support a given initiative while they do not get out in the real world where the real action is

needed. I personally agree with these two authors that the idea of activism requires more than

just creating awareness of the issue through online platforms or passive actions, but rather it

needs more of the actual commitment by getting directly in the public domain and actively

performing tasks that shows other what you stand for. The fact that a person can post on their

social media platforms does not have any significant effect on the changes that are proposed by

the cause they support.
