Folk, Country, Musical Theater, & Popular Music

The folk music genre has a rich history. This history dates back to its origin from Great

Britain when the British people immigrated to the United States during the period of the

Agrarian revolution. In Britain, this genre of music was brought about by manual laborers

who performed boring and tiring repetitive tasks. They made tunes that turned musical to

finish off the boredom created by the daunting tasks they had to carry out daily. The British

people performed the Traditional Folk genre. However, over the years the genre has evolved

a lot, but the most significant evolution came up during the folk revolution during the 20th

century in the United States. This revolution reached a satisfactory point in the sixties

(Borthwick and Ron 119). The newer form of folk music was referred to as contemporary

folk music to distinguish it from the earlier form of Folk that originated from Great Britain.

The newer folk music came with some genres which accompanied it. Such genres were folk

metal and folk rock.

The country music genre of music borrows a lot from the Appalachian Folk. This is

because immigrants who settled in the Appalachian Mountains came to that place with their

musical instruments from Europe with them. Later in the twentieth century, there was the

emergence of recording studios due to advances in technology. Most of the recording studios

in the United States were in the city of New York. In the year 1927, an employee of the

Victor recording studios gained motivation to go and record music for musicians in the region
