Final Project Part 2: Structures, Controls, or Policies to Address Ethical Dilemmas

Assignment

Ethical principles provide the foundations for work, business and organizations, which

expand individual and organizational priorities far beyond traditional business practices of

revenue and stakeholder development. Ethical principles also influence public sector

organizations, whereas the conventional priorities of access to services, quality assurance and

cost benefits must now shift to incorporate ethical considerations. Chapter 5 of Cooper’s (2012)

The Responsible Administrator discusses the conflicting responsibilities in which public

administrators oftentimes faces. Cooper (2012) asserts that the administrative role is one of

many roles in which we may have in our modern-day society; stating “each role consists of sets

of obligations and interests that stand a high chance of being at odds with the obligations and

interests of one or more other roles” (p.93). Furthermore, Cooper (2012) states the most

common conflicts in the administrative role are: conflicts of interest, conflicts of authority, and

role conflicts (p. 94).
