5.5 reageren op de omgevingAuxine
Auxine is een signaalstof. Signaalstof = plantenhormonen die betrokken zijn bij
onder meer de groeirichting, rijping of bescherming van de plant. Auxine is een
groeistof, maakt de rekbaarheid van celwanden groter den bevordert op die manier
de lengtegroei van cellen door celstrekking. Doordat licht de aanmaak van Auxine
verhindert groeien planten in de richting van het licht. De belichte zijde heeft dus een
kleinere concentratie auxine dan de schaduwkant, dit heeft als gevolg dat de stengel
die kant op groeit = Fototropie. Naar het licht toe, positieve fototropie. Van het licht
af, negatieve fototropie. Geotropie = wanneer ipv het licht de zwaartekracht het
zaadje beïnvloed, bv bij een zaadje dat in de bodem ontkiemt. Negatief, de stengel
groeit tegen de zwaartekracht in. Een worteltop is juist positieve geotropie. Door
invloed van zwaartekracht ( in een horizontale stengel ) gaat de Auxine naar de
onderkant van de stengel toe. De stengel zal nu naar boven groeien. Bij een
worteltop: Een verhoogde concentratie auxine aan de onderkant zorgt voor remming
van celtrekking, wortel groeit naar beneden.
Ethyleen
Het gas etyleen stimuleert rijping van veel fruit. Fruit wat niet rijp is bevat pectine. (=
soort lijmstof, houdt plantencellen dicht bij elkaar, hierdoor is dit fruit hard.) Het fruit
gaat ethyleen afgeven zodra die zaden voldoende ontwikkelt zijn. Vanaf nu kan het
rijpingsproces beginnen. Pectinase breekt de stof pectine af, hierdoor wordt ook het
vruchtvlees zachter.
Bescherming
Planten moeten zichzelf beschermen tegen op gegeten worden, ze hebben
afweermechanismes opgebouwd. Mechanische afweer, chemische afweer of
indirecte afweer.
1) Mechanische afweer: Uiterlijke aanpassingen, bijvoorbeeld haren, stekels of
doorns.
2) Chemische afweer: Ze maken stoffen aan die vies zijn of dodelijk.
3) Indirecte afweer: De plant maakt een lokstof, deze trekt de natuurlijke vijand
aan van diegene die hem zou willen opeten.
Bij hitte sluiten plantjes hun huidmondjes om uitdroging tegen te gaan, soms hebben
ze ook fysieke aanpassingen of chemische aanpassingen.
