Neighborhood Safety Assessment

, The neighborhood safety assessment is used to identify safety issues within the

community of Sentinel City. Data was collected from various sources throughout the city

including, my personal observations, Sentinel City Police Department, City Hall and Sentinel

Healthcare System. The data collected will be analyzed to create a problem list and then

prioritized to create a plan of action to improve the safety in the community.

1. Safety hazards witness throughout Sentinel city include:

 Garbage piles throughout city on sidewalks and in alleyways

 Rodents actively foraging throughout city

 Stray cats and dogs on sidewalks

 Large amount of graffiti and gang tags

 No bike paths

 Infrequent street lighting

 No parking spaces for cars, cars parked on street

 Minimal fire hydrants noted throughout city

 Bus stops have limited lighting and no defined boarding zone

 Construction zones lacking safety barriers, and broken pipe noted leaking unknown

substance on to street.

2. Drug use within Sentinel City:

Of the common arrests made within Sentinel City, the Sentinel City Police Department

reported 16% of arrest charges were controlled substance. The Sentinel Healthcare system

pharmacy reported the most common drugs abused within the population was tobacco, alcohol

and prescription drugs. While interviewing citizens of Sentinel city, five of the fourteen people

interviewed admitted to using marijuana. Of the persons interviewed two were homeless and one
