A. Organizational Need
TechFite is a company that makes medical devices for the aerospace industry. They
are located in Houston, Texas, and are currently working with NASA. Because of this
government contract with NASA, Techfite CIO is concerned about its security. It currently has a
two-firewall system that creates a three-ring network where the innermost ring is the most secure
and the outermost ring connects directly to the Internet. Each one of these firewalls creates a log
of all the network traffic that passes through each of the firewalls. The company is also growing
internationally so it must follow strict security compliances such as FISMA and NIST. Techfite
currently scans all its security logs manually, but to maintain FISMA compliance, it will need to
automate this process. Their I.T. department has a problem with holding system logs for over a
year due to a lot of traffic going through the network and insufficient storage space. A system
administrator suggested using a technology that automatically reviews and stores log files.
B. Emerging Technology Solution
For this organization need I have chosen Microsoft Azure Monitor. What makes this
product an emerging technology is the use of cloud computing combined with machine
learning. It uses machine learning to detect anomalies and reveal hidden patterns that help
resolve issues faster, find bottlenecks, and optimize performance (Sivakumar, 2018). It
also uses predictive analytics as a way to identify possible future outcomes based on
collected data. This technology can help us have enough storage space that can store logs
, for at least a year. We will be able to use its machine learning to automatically scan,
optimize, and predict future logs and as well meet FISMA and NIST requirements.
C. Adoption Process
I have chosen the Gartner STREET method as the adoption process.
Scope – This provides business focus and context for emerging technology
investments by identifying problems or a need in the organization. Techfit problem is
that there is not enough storage space to hold logs for a year and our I.T. specialists
must manually scan through logs.
Track – this stage involves looking for relevant technologies that can help with the
organization’s problem. I’m searching for technology that has a cloud-based service
to help with our storage problem and uses machine learning to scan logs before
storage.
Rank – is the process to look for products that will fit the needs of an organization.
Products that can help Techfite’s need is AWS Centralized Logging, Google Cloud
Logging, Rapid7 InsightsOps, Solarwinds Papertrail, and Microsoft Azure Monitor.
Evaluate – In this step, you will compare and choose which product will benefit the
organization the most. I will analyze products AWS Centralized Logging, Google
Cloud Logging, Rapid7 InsightsOps, Solarwinds Papertrail, and Microsoft Azure
Monitor. Out of these products Microsoft Azure Monitor is the product I chose for
Techfite.
