Welvaartsimplicaties van de vrije markt
Welvaart aan de vraagzijde van de markt = consumentensurplus CS
= totale betalingsbereidheid – totale uitgaven
Totale betalingsbereidheid neemt af naarmate x stijgt
CS is grafisch: oppervlakte onder de vraagcurve, boven de geldende prijs
Welvaart aan de aanbodzijde van de markt = producentensurplus PS
= totale ontvangsten – minimale ontvangsten nodig om de gegeven hoeveelheid aan te bieden
Grafisch: Oppervlakte boven de aanbodcurve, onder de geldende prijs
PS en CS worden beiden in euro uitgedrukt
In het marktevenwicht is de totale welvaart (= CS + PS) maximaal en het meest efficiënt
➔ Als je afwijkt van het evenwicht in hoeveelheid of prijs zal de totale welvaart dalen
Vb. markthoeveelheid laden dalen tot x1 → blauwe oppervlakte = verlies aan welvaart
, Marktwerking en Pareto-efficiëntie
Pareto-efficiënt: toestand waarbij het onmogelijk is om de welvaart van 1 agent (consument of
producent) te verhogen zonder dat die van de andere agent verlaagt.
Roze lijn = Paretogrens/utility frontier
➔ Alle punten op de paretogrens zijn efficiënt
➔ Onder de curve zijn inefficiënt
➔ Boven curve is onmogelijk
De normale marktwerking levert dus een punt op die lijn op
Oorzaken van marktfaling en rol van de overheid
Monopolie
Bij monopolie vragen ze prijzen die hoger liggen dan MK (zie H5)
➔ Geen maximale surplus voor consumenten en producenten
Vergelijking zuivere mededinging en monopolie:
Zuivere mededinging: p=MK → evenwicht in ea = paretro-efficiënt
Monopolie: MK=MO → evenwicht in em
