on Oral Cancer Prevention in Smoker Men. Journal of Cancer Education, 34(5), 920–927.

Oral cancer is prevalent around the world. Two of the main causes of this type of

cancer is tobacco and alcohol. Therefore, avoiding these two factors decreases the risk of

oral cancer. This study used the health belief model to determine how education will be

effective on male smokers. Men have a higher instance of death than women with oral

cancer. The results of the study show that after six months of education there was

enhancement in the six factors of the health belief model.

Health belief models have six constructs that influence patients: perceived

susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cue to action, and

self-efficacy. This study chose this model because you can tell someone the dangers of

smoking and drinking multiple times and they won’t stop. Looking at the six constructs

helps you understand why they are still deciding to smoke and drink alcohol. This way you

can come up with a better program that will be more effective in my practice, it will be

important for me to remember this model because it can be effective. I can use it to

investigate why certain patients decide whether to take action or not with their health. This

way I can modify my approach with them.
