The website that I chose is Illusions and Paradoxes: Seeing is Believing? for this
assignment. As I was scrolling through the optical illusions, I noticed that I had seen most of
them at some point throughout my life. However, no matter how many times I see the many
different types of optical illusions, I am amazed by how often our eyes deceive us. Things are not
always what they appear to be at first glance. I do not have a favorite optical illusion, but I really
enjoy the color vision tests and the word color test. I have always been intrigued by optical
illusions of all kinds.
I think that understanding how our sensory systems function has helped biopsychology
researchers develop better research questions that can be applied to everyday life by learning
how the body communicates with the brain. Advancing technology has allowed us to gain a
better understanding of how the body works which in turn gives researchers a way to help people
who have lost their hearing, sight, or a body part. For example, having the ability to understand
how we hear has helped researchers create a device known as the cochlear implant to help people
who cannot hear, either because they were born deaf or lost their hearing. The cochlear implant,
which stimulates the auditory nerves and results in the enhanced ability to hear sounds, is the
most common neuroprosthetics (Sanderson et al., 2018).
I am not sure how this knowledge is going to help me in developing a research question
or creating a research design for my investigation at this time.
