I am using the researched websites on businesses such as the BBC and City Bristol College
about how they validate equality and diversity to add more depth on how they address
them.
This research will help me compare how SGS College and the other businesses use their
official websites to help me achieve “How have companies responded to current issues of
equality and diversity in the workplace? e.g. gender pay gap, sexual harassment, gender
divide in leadership”, in this case to add newer ideas how SGS College can improve on to
achieve a good practise to build and support my business case.
City of Bristol have their own page on equality and diversity which states clearly on their
commitment of meeting these needs, to achieve their full potential as a college. Their
management team has its similarities and differences compared to SGS College. For
example, their website states that they “welcome all learners, regardless of their
background or starting point. We’re committed to promoting, maintaining and supporting
equal opportunities in everything we do.” This proves that they dedicate their time in order
students get treated fairly and receive the support they need in order to gain respect from
each other and grow the self-esteem students need. The benefits of having a positive
diversity and equality will improve employee retention, motivation and productivity. At City
of Bristol College, they value their employees because their services play an important role
in the success of their students. Once their hard work is being recognised the teachers
receive benefit packages such as supportive sickness pays, supportive package of continuous
professional development and many other generous opportunities. Improving employee
retention will help the business to keep their existing workers and offer benefits to keep
them within the business, this opportunity will help City of Bristol college to save their
money from recruiting newer candidates for the job. Keeping their existing teachers’
motivation and productivity will benefit students with their hard work as they want the best
for their students and do as much as they can to help them achieve their full potential and
receive a great learning experience. Their values are based on respect, pride, ambition and
integrity towards their students to create higher expectations and aspirations for all. This
helps to meet their objectives such as respecting students from any backgrounds. This will
also help me compare what SGS College can improve on or can add to their website, for
example, more information on their diversity page.
SGS College can retain more of their teachers by becoming more passionate with the
diversity they have, being more open on what benefits they offer to teachers who are
motivated and want to help the student and the business to achieve its full potential. For
example, adding an extra page on their website to advertise their equality and diversity
activities, by showing it off to the public how effective SGS College is on having a diverse
culture.
