1. Measure the length and width of your chosen area e.g. Field
2. Using these measurements, calculate the area, length x width.
3. Split this area into a 1m² grid where every square has a coordinate.
4. Choose random cords to sample around 5-10% of the total area to be accurate.
5. Place your quadrat at those positions and count the number of your chosen
organism e.g. daisies.
6. Put these results into a table.
7. Using your results, find the mean average of daisies per metre squared.
8. To estimate the total population, multiply your mean number by the area of the
field.
Using method two…
1. Lay a tape measure along the area you’re going to sample – 10m.
2. Place the quadrat at the start of the transect.
3. Then move the quadrat at 1m intervals and record the number of daisies each
time.
4. Record your results into a table.
