Sociale kwestie
Einde 19e eeuw was er veel vooruitgang in de industriële industrie.
- Bondgenootschappen:
Europa kenden 2 bondgenootschappen.
Driebond: ingesloten door tweebond, Italië (speelde bijna geen rol),
Duitsland en Oostenrijk+Hongarije.
Tweebond: Frankrijk en Rusland
- Modern imperialisme ((zee)koloniën)
- Militarisme (laten zien dat je een groot+sterk leger hebt)
→ Wapenwedloop (vooral Duitsland en Groot-Brittannië): Landen proberen
elkaar te overtreffen op het gebied van wapentechnologie of simpelweg
in aantallen wapens (ook tanks).
Engeland was machtig, maar hield zich erbuiten → Zoals gewoonlijk, ze waren trots op hun
politiek systeem. Fabrieken verouderd in Engeland → Duitsland en Frankrijk produceerde meer
staal. Engeland het koloniaal rijk. Engeland ging toch bij een bond, want waren bang dat
Duitsland te machtig werd.
Het was al heel erg lang duidelijk dat er een oorlog uit zou breken, maar
niemand wist waar en wanneer.
Keizer Wilhelm II wilde Serviërs niet, hij liet aan Oostenrijk weten dat hun als vriend en
bondgenoot achter hen zal staan.
Groot-brittannië vond het niet chill dat Duitsland zoveel macht had op militair
en economische gebied. Ook ging DU door belgië en belgië wou erbuiten
blijven. G-B vond dat landen die niet mee zouden doen ook niet er mee
moesten worden gevoegd. Dat gebeurde dus wel en daarom begon G-B tegen
DU te zijn.
