Met de inspirerende colleges van Prof. Dr. Axel Liégeois (1) nog ergens -sluimerend-
aanwezig in het achterhoofd, ben ik blij dat ook aan hogeschool Vives, aandacht wordt
besteed aan onze verdere morele ontwikkeling.
Als zorgprofessionals staan we dikwijls voor morele dilemma’s waarbij we steeds een keuze
moeten maken. Ook ‚niets doen‘ is immers een afgewogen keuze waarbij het resultaat een
positief of negatief gevolg kan hebben.
Naar mijn mening steunt ons moreel-professioneel gedrag te weinig op onze eigen innerlijke
morele identiteit en teveel op opgelegde normatieve en externe regulaties.
Ik zie de opleiding verpleegkunde in afstandsonderwijs als een ‚tool‘ voor onze individuele
karaktervorming. Waarbij de vorming van ons karakter een belangrijke bouwsteen wordt om
een brug te slaan tussen ‚een oordeel vellen‘ en ‚tot actie over gaan‘.
Deze opdracht helpt ons een eigen moreel kompas te ontwikkelen, een hulpmiddel, om,
wanneer we op een punt komen van besluitvorming, in eer en geweten‘ de juiste beslissing
te nemen, en dit in relatie tot onze patiënten.
