Task 1 (P1 and P4)
1.1 Essential facilities and services for the departing passenger:
When you depart from Schiphol, you can find several departure information on the yellow screens.
For example, the gates, or restaurants. You can check-in yourself via the self-service check-in/online
check-in and you can use the baggage drop if you already have a boarding card.
A manual check in goes like this: When you check in at the desk, the ground hostess will do
everything for you, so you don’t have to do something yourself. She makes sure that your baggage is
accepted, she will ask some security questions, she checks the documentation including to
determine right of entry to destination and conform ID, she makes your boarding card alright, so
they are not any boarding card issues. At least she will tell you the gate information so you will find
the way to the right gate.
After check-in you go to the security screening. They will check your baggage and they check you for
suspicious items. If everything is okay, your allowed to fly.
After security you arrive at the departure lounges. You have several lounges; you have the global
waiting areas; these are public lounges for everyone. You also have the private lounges. These are
the business lounges. This is for people which are flying business class, or people who have pay
money for this.
When it’s time for boarding you can walk to your gate. At the gate they can do some security checks;
they can ask you ID to look if you really are the right person which standing on your boarding pass.
Then they start with the preferential boarding, think off business class or wheelchair people. You can
go inside the airplane by provision of air-bridges of coaches.
1.2 Essential services and facilities for the passengers arriving at airports:
When a passenger is disembarking his flight there several facilities and services on the airport; you
can go outside the airplane by provision of air-bridge. This means that you don’t have to go by bus,
or the stairs.
People with special needs, for example a PRM, will disembark the airplane in a wheelchair by
provision of air-bridge or a special car and then they will bring the passenger to the nearest door
from his baggage claim. They help the PRM over the whole airport.
If you pick up your baggage and you lost your baggage for example, you can go to the lost and
damaged assistance. They will help you further with searching your baggage.
