Bepaling van de concentratie kalium in bronwater door gebruik te maken van een vlamfotometer.
2) Principe
De vlamfotometer werkt volgens het principe van het aanslagen van valentie-elektronen van de atomen die
men er in stuurt. Deze aangeslagen valentie elektronen zullen dan terugvallen en zo fotonen uitstralen. De
golflengte van deze uitgestraalde fotonen zijn omgekeerd evenredig met het verschil in energie tussen de
elektronen in grondtoestand en aangeslagen toestand. Hierdoor zal elk atoom zijn eigen emissiespectrum
hebben. Het blijkt dat de concentratie van K+in de oplossing een invloed zal hebben op het signaal van de
vlamfotometer. Namelijk hoe hoger de concentratie, hoe meer fotonen er worden uitgezonden, hoe sterker
en groter het signaal van de vlamfotometer. Aangezien er met een hoge temperatuur gewerkt moet worden,
wordt voorkomen dat de atomen die door de vlam gestuurd zijn niet geïoniseerd worden. Om dit te
voorkomen zal men een ionisatie buffer (NaCl) toevoegen.
