Polypharmacy in the elderly is of concern, with many older patients requiring treatment for

multiple health conditions. As more nurses become prescribers, this article aims to highlight

some of the problems of prescribing for this age group and inform the readers of the concerns

relating to taking multiple drugs in older age. This article aims to give an overview of the

problem, look at the effects on quality of life, and offer some guidance on solving the issues

linked to the problem. Reflecting on the source the student nurse had noticed the categories the

source is divided up in. Divided into different individual categories that all relate to the common

issue or problem that’s trying to get across to the reader, polypharmacy. The student nurse chose

this article due to the important key points mentioned in the source. The importance of routine

review of the patients medications and see if they affected the patient in any way whether good

or bad. If the drug affected the patient then its recommended to reduce the dose or to rule out

whether that particular is really necessary for the patient.
