1. The report on the art exhibition

The exhibition I visited is 'Molenbeek' by Philippe
Vandenberg. This exhibition took place at BOZAR in
Brussels. I viewed this exhibition online as the
museums are now closed due to the corona virus. I
watched this exhibition alone on a Saturday afternoon
from my couch. I searched online for exhibitions and
finally chose this one. I chose this exhibition because
BOZAR really allows you to walk in the museum via
your computer screen, which makes it as impressive as
it is in real life.

When reading the title, I was not sure what to expect. Molenbeek is known to me
as one of the last places I would like to be now. I didn't have very high
expectations, so it could only be better than expected. I had also never heard of
this artist. I think it would be fun to watch something you've never heard of.
That way you can learn new things.

Short biography of Philippe Vandenberg:

Philippe Vandenberg is a Flemish artist who was
born in 1952 in Ghent. Here he came into contact
with the works of Hieronymus Bosch and Gustave
Van de Woestijne in the Museum of Fine Arts. This
has aroused his fascination with painting. In 1970 he
starts his studies of Arts & Philosophy and Art
History at the University of Ghent, which he stops in
1972 to devote himself fully to a study of painting.
In 1976 he graduated in painting at the Royal
Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Two years later he
leaves for New York for the first time, where he gets
to know space in the works of Pollock, Rothko and Kline and was especially
affected by Ensor's 'The Fight of the Rebel Angels'.

This work by Philippe Vandenberg from 2008 is unnamed.
He made it from oil paint, charcoal and pastels and made
the work on a plywood plate.

His works often look like chaos. He uses many colors, both
warm and rather cold colors. There is also a lot of contrast.
The lines in the work are linear, so it is also very angular
and geometric ... You often don't see anything in it, so this
is a very abstract work.

There is of course also a meaning behind this work.
