Burj Al Arab is a luxury hotel in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates which is part of the Jumeirah Hotel

group. Burj Al Arab is designed by Tom Wright and is promoted as the only seven-star hotel in the

world.

Burj Al Arab is located in the sea on an artificial island 280 meters from the beach, in the Persian Gulf.

The building is connected to the Mainland by a bridge. The building is 321 meters high and is built in

the shape of a sail of a dhow (a type of Arabic ship), because boats play an important role in Dubai.

The construction of the hotel began in 1994 which was two years spent at the draining of the soil.

Then it took nearly three years to build the hotel in the form of a sail. The doors were opened to

guests on December 1, 1999.

The design and construction of the hotel were so expensive, that it has been estimated that the hotel

must be booked up to 400 years to be profitable. Burj Al Arab is known as one of the most expensive

hotels in the world. The hotel comprises 28 floors with a total of 202 suites, divided into Deluxe

suites, Panoramic suites, Club suites and Royal suites. The price for the least expensive rooms are

between the $1000 and $6000 per night. The most expensive rooms cost more than $15.000 per

night.

Connected to the mainland by a slender, gently curving causeway, guests may arrive at Dubai's most

iconic hotel by either one of the world's largest chauffeur-driven fleets of Rolls Royce's or

alternatively by a dedicated helicopter transfer service. Visitors who arrive by helicopter will

experience a 15 minute birds-eye-view of the city, culminating in a dramatic landing on the hotel's

helipad on the 28th level.
