The rise of Philip, who resurrected Macedonia as a new superpower to combat the
mighty Athenian forces, was one of the major events that brought Greek democracy
to an end. After defeating Athens and Thebes, Philip became the leader of the League
of Corinth, which ruled over Greece and put an end to democracy in the nation. The
league was already led by Alexander the Great, who had inherited influence from his
father. Following Alexander the Great's assassination, the Athenian General
Leosthenes set his sights on Macedonia.
Despite the defeat, Antipater, the Macedonian General, fought back and ended the
remaining democracy once and for all by allowing only the wealthy to reach the
capital, thereby establishing social injustice. In short, Philip initiated the operation,
and Antipater brought independence to an end in Greece.
