1. Scenario number two states that Maxim is working with Joaquin in a
counseling situation. Joaquin is a resident of the local jail, having been found stealing
pastries from a bake shop. When caught, Joaquin claimed that the devil told him to do
it and that he had done far worse things in the past. Maxim visits with him and makes
notes about what he learns about
15 Joaquin each time they are together.

I see this as being a case study, where one individual is studied in great detail, in
order to learn everything they can about that individual. In this case, it is Maxim who is
working Joaquin, visiting him and taking notes about what he learns each time.

Even though Joaquin is a prisoner, he is not without rights. In this case especially,
being
20 that there will be a long lasting and deeply personal learning, there must be an informed
consent, and he mus be assured that he may stop at any time. In addition, it is important
that all parties understand that all data collected will remain confidential. The researcher
is responsible for any ill effects that may come about during the study, and should always
be aware of any impact to the participant.

25 I believe Sigmund Freud's Theory of Psychoanalysis is most closely aligned to
this method of research. Joaquin stated that the devil told him to do it, and to me that
voice did not come from an actual outside source, such as the devil, and more likely
came from inside his own unconscious mind, and he is not aware.
