Nike
Nike Sports Wear is a multi-billion-dollar company that is popular among society
today. They are one of the leading athletic companies that many sports organizations use to
sponsor during their games. However, if the majority of the population who wears Nike, were
to know how they have become so successful, people would potentially change their minds. In
order to keep the costs of labor very low, Nike allows workers in Indonesia to work in
oppressive and inhuman conditions for one dollar and twenty-five cents a day. Not only is their
salary pitiful, their living conditions would be comparable to how the homeless population lives
in the US.
The workers "only thing they have is their work".
The very fact that the workers have settled for this type of mindset demonstrates how low
their moral has become. It also shows that the way of life in Indonesia is dominated by poor
government leadership that literally does very little to represent their people. Because of this, I
believe that it would be a social responsibility of western society to step in and help these people.
At the very least, they could be taught that life doesn't have to be this way. Furthermore, because
Nike allows their poor working conditions to go on to "save a buck", is appalling and revolting.
