Analysis of challenges facing Amazon

Payment Security
The challenge with payment security is that online payments need to be secure so the
customer can feel reassured that their money is being handled safely. This can be a challenge
because hackers can get into businesses’ website and find the payment details of customers,
people can also set up fake sites that look like the business’s, so customers will enter their
payment details which can then be stolen. There are also always new payment methods being
established, and it can be a challenge to keep up with these, and to keep up with these safely.
Online payments mean a pin and chip isn’t used, which can be a challenge because this is one
of the best ways to make sure payments are legit and secure, as with just having to enter card
details, anyone could do this if they got a hold of someone’s card. Amazon overcome this
challenge by having their payment pages have a ‘https’ rather than just ‘http’ in the weblink, the
‘s’ means it is secure so you can tell if it is a fake amazon site or not easier. You also have to be
logged into an Amazon account to buy things on there, which adds an extra layer of protection
to your details.

Keeping pace with technological change
Amazon need to be able to keep up with any changes made that relate to their business, and
they need to keep their systems up to date. This is a challenge because technological changes
are always being made and it can be hard to keep up with, especially as some of it can be
complex and when things are new, you can’t always be sure they are safe so Amazon have to
be able to check this out when making technological changes. Amazon has overcome this by
doing things such as having an app, which is a technological change some businesses still have
not overcome. Having the app allows customers to access Amazon more easily, as well as
meaning they can stay logged in and order on the go.

Competition / competitors
Amazon need to be able to keep up with competition, this can be a challenge because when
online, you are competing against the world which means you have more competitors to keep
up with and more competitors to research. Other competitors can easily check out what Amazon
are selling, how much they’re selling it for, etc, as well as being able to look online at reviews for
Amazon, which gives competitors easy access to what people do and don’t like about Amazon,
and other sites may use this to make sure they don’t do the things people don’t like and do the
things people do like, which can increase competition. Amazon overcome this by having a wide
variety of products and sellers always adding the newest items, as well as having a competitive
edge, such as having Amazon Prime, and offering other services such as Amazon Music, Video
and Audio Books.
