Change is defined as a state of transition moving towards a new condition, without
being breaking away from the historical past. It can be used to describe the changing
of major events over a period of time through the process of cause and impacts.

1. The French revolution
Learners should know that there was a fundamental change in the social, political
and economic structure and government of the France in 1789.Learners should
know that France was divided into classes of the First estate, which was made up of
the clergies that owned one tenth of the land and enjoyed certain privileges, the
second estate that was made up of the nobles that owned one third of the land and
did not pay taxes to the government and the third estate made up of the rest of the
population and they did not enjoy any privileges. In France the financial crisis and
the poor harvests were the main triggers that led to the king and the existing social
order. The grievances were widespread among peasants , middle class and the poor
people. The rigidity of the regime ,arrogance of those with the privileges and power
and the falling of the economic caused the revolution. Starvation increased and
forced unemployed people to move to Paris to look for jobs food and shelter due to
poor harvests. Learners should know that the poor classes and the masses on the
first phase of the revolution demanded that the feudal system be abolished, taxes be
divided equally and that a parliament and a constitution be introduced. The masses
forced the Assembly to act by three main events. The uprisings of the peasants and
the masses drove the events forward.
2. The Industrial revolution in Britain and Southern Africa from 1860
Learners should know that several changes happened during the industrial
revolution in Britain during the years from 1750- 1850. Industrial revolution is a
period when people began to use machines to produce goods rather than to use
hands to produce goods. to make work, it was called industrialization. There were
also changes in manufacturing, factories, power and energy, mining and
transportation of goods. Before the Industrial revolution, people were using ox-drawn
carts to transport goods in dirty dusty roads but after industrial revolution people
developed trains and trucks and ships that can transport goods as quickly as
possible and the developed tarmac roads and railway lines. Before the Industrial
revolution people were doing open mining cause they could not break big stones and
drain water underground but after industrial revolution people had machines that can
blasts big rocks and drain water from underground ,so they managed to mine deeper
underground. Before the Industrial revolution, many people lived in rural areas. They
did farming only to feed their families. Industrial revolution replaced common land by
enclosure system that allowed one person to farm the land with enough machines
and agricultural inputs to produce food that can feed the whole country. Those
