sus productos le aporte una mayor cantidad de dinero que la que él gastó en la
producción de esos objetos. Si él no logra obtener esta cantidad mayor, su
producción deja de tener sentido. Esto no ocurre con el pequeño productor
independiente que produce para intercambiar sus mercancías por otras de
igual valor: aquellas que él no produce y necesita para vivir.
Si en el intercambio mercantil simple se trataba de vender mercancías (M)
para obtener dinero (D) que permitiera comprar otras mercancías de igual
valor (M), en el intercambio capitalista se trata de tener dinero que permita
comprar mercancías que permitan obtener más dinero (D+d). Así, la fórmula
del intercambio mercantil simple será: M D M Y la fórmula del intercambio
capitalista será: D M D+d.
1. Ahora bien, la pregunta que surge es: ¿de dónde saca el capitalista
esta mayor cantidad de dinero?
Sólo tiene sentido si el dinero del final es mayor que el del principio. D - M – D+d.
d es el valor adicional, la plusvalía, que da sentido a ese movimiento. Ese valor
adicional deja de ser dinero y se convierte en capital. Todo nuevo capital puede
empezar su movimiento sólo bajo la forma dinero.
2. ¿Podrá provenir de una mayor alza de los precios, es decir, de la
venta de las mercancías por encima de su valor?
Si los capitalistas fueran un grupo que sólo vendiera y nunca tuviera que comprar,
quizás podría explicarse así la cosa. Pero la realidad es diferente: el capitalista, al
mismo tiempo que vende sus productos, tiene que comprar otros productos para
poder producir. Tiene que comprar materias primas e instrumentos de trabajo a
otros capitalistas que los producen. Pues bien, si éstos subieran también los
precios se produciría una especie de compensación entre todos los capitalistas
de la sociedad. Lo que ganarían como vendedores lo perderían como
compradores.
