TEMA 1: MODERNISMO Y GENERACIÓN DEL 98CONTEXTO HISTÓRICO (AMBOS)
El siglo XIX termina con el Desastre del 98 en el que España pierde sus últimas colonias. En
España se encuentra el reinado de Alfonso XIII con el paréntesis de la Dictadura Militar de
Primo de Rivera. Mientras tanto, en el mundo se desarrolla la IGM.
EL MODERNISMO
El Modernismo fue introducido por Rubén Darío y se caracteriza porque toma del
Parnasianismo la perfección formal y del Simbolismo los símbolos; el autor se aleja de la
realidad indagando en su intimidad; el ambiente está inspirado en una época medieval, clásica
y oriental; la realidad se interpreta a través de los símbolos; el arte era para la aristocracia;
importancia de la sensualidad (uso de sinestesias e imágenes sensoriales); uso de un léxico
culto, recursos retóricos y neologismos; así como versos de arte mayor y estrofas clásicas
renovadas.
En cuanto a sus géneros, obras y autores más importantes destacan en poesía Rubén Darío
(Azul), A. Machado (Soledades, influencia de Bécquer), M. Machado (Almas) y Juan Ramón
Jiménez (Arias Tristes). En novela destaca Valle-Inclán (Las Sonatas) y Juan Ramón Jiménez
(Platero y Yo). En teatro destacaron los hermanos Machado (La Lola se va a los puertos).
GENERACIÓN DEL 98
Se caracteriza por la influencia de filósofos irracionalistas (angustia vital, preocupaciones
existenciales), la preocupación por España y su regeneración, así como el uso de un lenguaje
natural, preciso con palabras tradicionales y arcaísmos.
En poesía destacó Machado (Campos de Castilla) y Unamuno (El Cristo de Velázquez); en
novela destacó Unamuno (La Tía Tula), Pío Baroja (Zalacaín el Aventurero, El Árbol de la
Ciencia), Valle-Inclán (Ruedo Ibérico, Tirando Banderas) y Azorín (La Voluntad). En teatro
destacó Valle-Inclán (Comedias Bárbaras) y Unamuno (Fedra). En el género del ensayo
destacaron Ganivet, Machado (Juan de Mairena) y Unamuno (Del Sentimiento Trágico de la
vida).
