Chapters 1 & 2
1. Who are the four main characters in the novel?
Piggy, Ralph, Jack, and Simon
2. How did the boys get to the island?
They are all schoolboys, and they have been ejected from a flaming airplane. Only kids
survived the crash and there were no adults who survived.
3. What are the littluns afraid of?
They are afraid for the beasts/monsters in the darkness of the night
4. How does the conflict between Jack and Piggy begin?
in the beginning, jacks calls piggy a ‘’fat boy’’ and that hurts piggy. Later in chapter one,
piggy and jack have a discussion and does jack hits piggy. Piggy’s glasses fell off and I think
that is the begin of the conflict between them.
5. What is the immediate result of the fire on the mountain?
the made a fire to act as a signal for their rescue’s. the plan did not go as planned, at the
end they have used too much wood for a small fire, and they did not know how to handle the
fire at the end.
Chapters 3 & 4
1. How do Ralph and Simon look after the boys?
They build huts for the younger boys to live in, jack was hunting with a sharpened stick and
jack was thinking of ways to maximize their chances of being rescued.
2. What effect is the island having on Jack?
Jack is inhibitions and he did become dangerous on the island. Jack loves to hunt and loves
the danger.
3. What happens with the signal fire?
The boys rush off to build a large fire, piggy said the size of the fire cannot be too big. At the
end, the fire burs out of control and spreads into the forest.
