The 20th century was full of a lot of great physicists, inventions, and developments.
Industrial laboratories contributed the most to physics during the twentieth century. 20th-century
physicists had more significant achievements in space rather than on earth. One of the great
physicists that contributed significantly during this time was Albert Einstein. Overall, the
twentieth century was full of discoveries, space achievements, and further success with the use of
industrial laboratories.
Laboratories started opening for more than just technology and started gearing more
towards science. “What is impressive about industrial civilization in the twentieth and now
twenty-first centuries is the extraordinary success of governments and industry in utilizing the
science and the research frontier for practical, economic ends” (Bertolini et al., 2006, p.393).
Upon this happening, it opened up more options and scientific developments for physicists
everywhere. The war effort also helped fund technology and physics with maximum funding to
help develop and stay ahead of other countries.
Physicists in the twentieth century had more advances in space than on earth. “The
exploration of space in the second half of the twentieth century and today was a singular
outgrowth of the developing interconnection of science and the military” (Bertolini et al., 2006,
p.396). The first satellite was launched in 1957 by the Russians, called Sputnik. In 1969
American crew aboard Apollo 11 were the first humans to land on the moon. In 1912, Viktor
Hess launched a balloon into the sky and discovered cosmic rays.
