Introduction
As the newly promoted district manager of five new locations, there are job designs and
organizational designs that must be created. A district manager still needs to include the five
functions of managers, planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling, because it led
them to the success that they have been recognized and promoted for at this time and they have
five new locations that they are responsible for. Job design is an essential task for district
managers because they must create tasks that will need to be done for Dunkin’ Donuts to operate
successfully and determine who will be completing the tasks based on certain criteria.
Organizational design is a focus on improving Dunkin’ Donuts in the best way for the company
and for the consumers. In this paper, I will be explaining my job design as the new district
manager and the organizational design of my choosing.
Job Design
“Job design involves identifying appropriate, job- related knowledge, skills, and abilities
to ensure that assigned work can be completed successfully. Designers consider the work, the
environment, and the impact of the work on employees. The standard approach to job design
involves three step job analysis, job description, and job specification” (Baack, Reilly &
Minnick, 2014). As the job analysis section of job design, as a new district manager, I would be
calling other district managers of Dunkin’ Donuts to gain insight on where to start as far as the
positions skills and knowledge that will be needed from the staff and who will be doing said
tasks. “This process normally involves using a resource such as the Dictionary of Occupational
Titles (U.S. Department of Labor, 1977)” as quoted by Baack, Reilly & Minnick. Since I do have
