This is a summary of all the slides and all the notes I take during all classes. With this I got a 15/20 with the written exam myself. It's written in English and Dutch, bit of a combination of both.

Too few lessons in a nutshell! Very unfortunate because the summary itself is not bad...

European Integration
- Integration of states (IR) (opbouw= bottom up)
why do states integrate? Why are sovereign states willing to share
sovereignty and to integrate to work together, what are their motives? How
can we understand their current degree of integration and cooperation?
What inspired them to cooperate?
you need theories of IR to understand why states are willing to integrate.
How does this int org, that is established by multiple states, work? (what is
the exit, input, org..) (= European integration)
So IR is why they are willing to integrate and EU Integration is ‘how does it
work’
- Functioning of the European Union/ EU Governance (comparative pol) (werking=
within)
What does the EU do with the member states, what does the EU do with
opinions within member states?
Need theories of comp pol to understand the functioning
- Impact of the EU on member states (impact= top down)
we only look at the first two: history of EU integration and the functioning.
What are according to you the major achievements of the EU?
- Schengenzone
- De euro (eenheidsmunt= the single currency)
- Vrije markt in de economie
- Voorwaarden om deel te nemen aan de EU economic conditions such as the 2
percent inflation
- Europese centrale bank
- the peace and security
- Freedom of democracy (freedom of speech, human rights…)
- Schengen zone free pass for persons between 26 countries (=free movement of
people, so you can easily cross over the borders of multiple countries, you can travel
without to show your ID etc)
- Free trade (free movement of goods and services and the Euro, the single currency)
What are according to you the most pressing challenges (uitdagingen) for the EU?
- To stick to the original motives and to take in account all the opinions of the member
states on the same degree
- Migration, climate, terrorism
- Economic issues like how the Euro can survive
- Public Health policies fe: the impact of the Corona crises
, The abduction (ontvoering) of Europe by nationalism and populism there is integration
but it can turn the progresses of integration because of the voices in the background of
populism and nat.
