PGT February 2021

1. The rise of the leisure sector is partially due to the increase in mobility.
2. During the preparation and execution phase (of a project), five monitoring aspects play an
important role. These are: money, quality, time, organization, and information.
3. One of the first things you do when producing a new concept is analyzing the environment.
Among other aspects, we analyze the ongoing trends and developments. This is relevant
because, when you map current trends, you do not risk presenting the new idea and later
finding out that it already exists.
4. In our leisure time, we do not have the full freedom of choice. This is shown by the theoretical
model of Knulst.
a. Model of Knulst – leisure behavior

- Society  what is normal or regular in a society will influence our leisure behavior.
- Sub-culture  groups we identify as part of, as well as norms and values of that group will
influence our leisure behavior.
- Environmental factors  provide resources or restrict our leisure behavior.
- Supply  what kind of leisure supplies are available.
- Government  gives rules and regulations.
b. Model of Maslow – human needs; motivation

c. Model of Mommaas – categorization of the leisure sector

, 5. Desk research is the research technique which is mainly acquired by sitting at a desk. It generally
refers to the collection of secondary data.
a. Primary data – collected by researchers directly from main sources (through interviews,
surveys, experiments…). Regarded as the ‘best kind of data’.
b. Secondary data – collected by somebody other than the primary user/researcher.
Common sources of secondary data for social science include censuses, information
collected by government departments, organizational records and data that was
originally collected for other research purposes.
c. Raw data – data that has not been processed for use.
6. The cost that remains constant when changes occur to the volume of activity known is a fixed
cost.
a. Fixed cost – does not change with the increase or decrease in the amount of goods or
services sold or produced.
b. Sunk cost – money that has already been spent and cannot be recovered.
c. Variable cost – increases or decreases depending on a company’s production volume 
rises as production increases, falls as production decreases. (e.g., raw materials and
packaging)
7. The term ‘radius of action’ is used to analyze the demand side of leisure mobility.
a. Radius of action – an individual’s willingness and ability to travel
b. Catchment/service area – the distance a majority of people is willing to cross to go to
the leisure facility
c. Carrying capacity – the maximum number of people that can be at the same place at the
same time without causing destruction of the physical, sociocultural, or economic
environment and do not have a negative impact on the quality of visitors’ satisfaction
8. There are three P’s that are central in a lot of literature on sustainability. These are: people,
planet, and profit.
9. Gordon’s 12 Roadblocks to Communications all express the listener’s desire to change rather
than accept the sender.
10. Sustainability is an important topic to society and thus the leisure sector. To show how a
company will take sustainability into account, they are often required to write a sustainability
plan. The chronological order of subjects addressed in a sustainability plan is: 1. vision, mission,
2. values, 3. policy, 4. Advice.
