Name of agency/professional Statutory/Non-Statutory Role and Responsibilities
Local Safeguarding Children's Board Statutory The LSCB is set up by each local authority to co-ordinate and promote the
(LSCB) safeguarding and welfare of children in the local area. There are different
people who work with the LSCB which includes safeguarding partners who
represent the local authority, the police and the Health Service.
Ofsted Statutory Ofsted (for standard in education, children's services and skills) are responsible
for inspecting and regulating all registered early years settings including
childminders. They make sure that the settings are suitable, and report on how
effective they are.
Childminder agency non-statutory These organisations exist to give advice and training to childminders, as well as
supporting parents in finding a childminder.
They are registered by Ofsted, but childminders do not have to join them as
they already have their own individual Ofsted registration
Speech and language therapist (SALT) non-statutory Speech and language therapists work with settings and families to support
children who have difficulty with speech-language and communication
development.
Physiotherapist non-statutory Physiotherapist will come into the setting to work with children who need
support with their physical movements. They will also advise staff and parents
about how they can do this
Health visitor / paediatric nurse non-statutory Health visitors and paediatric nurses monitor children's development,
particularly in the early months and years after birth. They support families as
well as early years settings, and provide advice
